Yesterday I called the Public Works folks and made an appointment to bring hazardous materials in today. They gave me a 12:20 slot. In preparation, I removed the hard drives from the two dead computers that still had real estate in the basement (and a 5-1/4" floppy drive too, just in case they made a comeback or something).

This morning, Cathy had her hair appointment, and Sarah and I went out to Panera's and had a couple of bagels that couldn't be beat. After that, Sarah only wanted to go home, just in case Cathy might be back from hair. She wasn't yet, so Sarah went out to see if Colin was home. He was, and ended up coming over here, inspecting our house from basement to attic and having a bowl of cereal with some gumballs in it. He ended up leaving when Sarah proved unwilling to share any of her toys, clinging to anything he happened to show an interest in. A few minutes after that, Cathy arrived.

It was time for my hazmat appointment, so I left my family to their lunch and went up the street to where a line of cars began. The end of the line was a couple of blocks away. I joined the line and called my sister to shoot the breeze a while, eventually ringing off to drop off the two computers and one wonky monitor. Home again; I took the scenic back way and saw that Ed & Martha were having a tag sale. Instead of having lunch right away, I dragged wife & daughter to see what they had -- their two girls are just enough older than Sarah to be getting rid of toys she'd be interested in.

They were selling their swingset for $25 (50% off what they paid), and we talked Sarah into grudgingly accepting it. Ha ha. Of course she was eager to have it. We talked about transporting it one block to our house later on. Then the gals went out for Sarah's hair appointment while I cooked up some pot stickers and loafed in front of the computer a while. Then they came home and we went to get the swingset. Ed and I carried it down the sidewalk, detouring onto the street to avoid being squeezed between a tree and a chain-link fence. We were joined by Brett & Raisa's dad, who took up the middle. It went easily into place -- Sarah had a spot picked out by the back fence. Brett & Raisa's mom came along and brought us some doodads that screw into the ground and stabilize it. They bought them for their own swingset and never used them. I expect to use them.

Sarah played happily on the set for a while. Then she came in the house and was loudly bored all over. Now it's time for some of Cathy's yummy tuna-rice confection, with the peas and carrots and mayonnaise. I just can't get enough of the stuff, so I'll LJ at youse later.
