I don't even remember how far back I'm catching up. The holidays had us all together for ten days in a row. The week after, Sarah went back to school and Cathy was feeling poorly, so she stayed home for most of the week. This weekend, we went mattress shopping, and Sarah will get a twin-size mattress delivered Monday, marking the end of three and a half years in the same bed -- it converts from a crib to a child's bed. It would convert again to a twin, but for reasons of space, we're just going to put the mattress on her floor, and put a bigger bookshelf in the room (and try to get rid of some old toys and put others into her capacious closet).

Today was a birthday party for her friend Madison. Sarah's birthday is now less than a month away. I got Sarah to write HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADISON and SARAH and scanned them and made a card. The photo of Madison on the front was taken by Sarah, and inside is one of them both together. The party was held at a gymnastics center, and the kids -- about 17 of them -- spent a lot of time bouncing. Sometimes on trampolines, even.

Sarah has been full of energy. Some of it she uses to dance on my last nerve. Other times, she's the sweetest. She and I made supper tonight, from a recipe in a kid cook book I picked up for fifty cents at the library. She stirred, poured, and helped in other ways, like carrying stuff to the trash for me. The result was "Tadpoles in a hole," which is sausages atop cornbread with corn and cheese baked in, and cheese sprinkled on top. It's the second time we've had it.

Just after 8, the power went out. This isn't Newport News, though, and they had it back on by 9. First it was all dark outside, then I could see lights on the far side of the next block. Couldn't tell if they'd been on all along or not. Another half hour and the shopping center had lights, and then ours came back on. Sarah had been upset by the darkness, so she was lying by me in bed while I tried to read The Shakespeare Wars by battery lantern light.

Then it turned out my nightshirt was in the laundry, so it's good that the power came back. Cathy's got tomorrow off, so maybe we can go out and do something. We were going to hit a show of classic pulp sf cover art on Friday, but Sarah started complaining of a tooth pain that turned out to be from a blueberry seed stuck in her teeth.

Also, I got a doctor's appointment about the pain where my spine meets my pelvis. She asked me questions I couldn't answer clearly, then theorized possible arthritis. Now I'm taking Naproxen and seeing a physical therapist three times a week to get my butt zapped with electricity. Therapist says my pelvis is higher on one side, which could be causing the pain. Also the bad fall I took three years ago chasing a cat that got out didn't help (and my back went out every few years before that anyway). So, if your life is insufficiently amusing, think of me spending 45 minutes a week receiving rhythmic bzzzzks from a small device, and maybe that'll be worth a small chuckle. Glad to help.

I'm sure more stuff happened, but my brain has let go of it. So maybe it's time for me to lie down and see if I can read a little more before I drop off.
