try to remember

Sarah wanted the training wheels off this morning, so I took them off for her. Then she wanted me to teach her to ride her two-wheel bike. I pushed, then carried, her bike down to Dion Court, then tried pushing her along, but it wasn't fast enough for her to get her balance, and she didn't want to go faster (or even that fast) so I lugged the bike back home again. She asked me to put the wheels back on, but I haven't done it yet. I might try the advice I found online to let her roll down a grassy hill, then try rolling down with her feet on the pedals, then rolling down while pedalling.
So then she dug in the yard a bit, turning up a bug with the trowel. A worm! she cried, excitedly. Actually it was a grub -- we need to apply Milky Spore, apparently. And apply some grass while we're at it, I guess. I got her bug viewer and put the grub in it. Then she found another, and was even more excited. Now she figured they could be a mama grub and a baby grub. I explained that grubs aren't our friends, and we gave them a new home in the street. Next she found a worm, and we watched it flip around a bit before putting it back in the dirt.
Next it was off to Panera's for some breakfast, and Costco for some more shaver blades, and the gas station for some gas and a quick vacuuming (they have free vacuum machines there), before we headed up to Holyoke and the Children's Museum. I presented my expired membership card, but they said that since they were closed all through September, we get another month. Which is almost up, but still -- another month! She did the usual stuff. I joined her in the climber a couple of times before we went back to the shadow room. I had a new idea for the shadow room -- when the lights were off, I got out my little LED light and drew on the phosphorescent wall with it. Then it was bubbles, pretend groceries and food, and finally outside to play in the playground (making sand piles) and taking some merry-go-round rides.

Colin came over, and they were going to renovate the pool they made last time, but the spigot on the outside tap wasn't working. I decided it was probably a $5 part and drove off to the hardware store, but it turns out that the $5 part can't be bought separately from the $20 assembly it sits on. I didn't want to buy the whole thing just to screw off the handle and put the rest aside, so I deferred the whole enterprise.
And every time I looked at my mail, there were more comments on the Fufumal. Dang.
In the afternoon, I gratified an ambition I've had for a while by purchasing the PDF of Horowitz's arrangement of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" and playing it up to the really tough part. Now at least I know which hand is playing which notes. Sarah got to bed late, missing her usual book-reading time, so I told her the Three Bears again, which went over well. She fell asleep fairly quickly, after which I came down and practiced a smidgen in anticipation of seeing some family members in a week or so.
Then I played a zillion online Flash games, wrote this, and in a minute I'll wander upstairs and crash, if I make it that far. Night all.
