I ended up taking Sarah bowling, as I was considering. We went to the nearby Agawam Bowl, the one I could never find open on the weekend, and they were open and people were playing. It turned out to be candlepin bowling, so we learned something new. I learned, after a while, how to keep score properly. Sarah, meanwhile, was trying to master the smaller balls with no finger holes. I told her not to throw the ball, but to roll it. She said it was harder, because she couldn't hold them with one hand. She ended up advancing to the line, tossing the ball, somewhat, and usually toppling forward onto her hands as a follow-through. Still, she was rolling them straighter, for the most part, though some bounced off the bumpers. So did some of mine. She rolled one great strike, right down the middle, which is better than I did. She also won both frames, and she was very happy to do so.
She still prefers bowling at Chicopee Lanes (whatever they're called), with larger balls, more usual shaped pins, and automatic scoring. We'll probably go Sunday morning after Panera's, when games are 99 cents each.
Saturday morning will be "Breakfast with Santa" at the college. Sarah's looking forward to it keenly. Last year, I believe, she was willing to sit on Santa's lap, and that was about the first time she'd been that brave. We'll see how it goes this year.
