The computer project seems to have been somewhat successful. After the first few changes, it suddenly became about ten times slower than it should be. I pressed on. Taking expert advice (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] shelleybear), I ended up moving 2/3 of the stuff on my C drive to the backup and defragmenting the C. Normal operation returned.

I finished Operation iPod Substitute, burning the disks for the Rio Volt player. It has good sound, though it's a trifle larger than the pod. Hmmm, should be about a half a week before estimated time to get my iPod back with a new hard drive in it. I guess I should put those music files back on the C drive, so as not to confuse iTunes. I'd hate to have to reconstruct it all from scratch.

Chinese New Year was celebrated, once again. It's the last time we'll be attending the event at Brightside, I guess. I'm hoping we can get some sort of pen pal thing going with Sarah's friends that we met through this group, now that they're in the 6+ range, more or less. As usual, there were posters made by the resident kids of the place (who we never see). This year's theme was ecology, and my favorite poster was "Save The Rhinos," with a drawing of a rhino (of course). This was not just any rhino -- it was clearly copied from Albrecht Duehrer's famous rhino. I liked it.

The indoor miniature golf place opened up, with no fanfare. Apparently that comes later, but for now, Sarah and I can get in and play without anybody ahead of us or behind us. Every so often, there's a resounding WHACK as a golfer drives a ball into a movie screen in an adjacent room. The course has water hazards and sand traps. Sarah's discouraged because in two games, she hasn't won yet. She thinks she should just be able to beat me at stuff because she wants to. She was ahead for the first two holes, but that's not enough for her.

The other evening, Sarah took all the forks out of the silverware drawer. "I'm making something," she said. I shuddered and went back to what I was doing. She made several more trips, first for the rest of the silverware in the drawer, and then for the good silverware in the other drawer. I finally went in to look, and she had laid out the silverware into a large 2-D construction -- she called it a maze, but it looked for all the world like a grand piano, seen from above.

Monday was Pajama Day at Sarah's school. She wore pajamas to school, as did the rest of the student body at John Ashley. Good thing it was a warm day. We've been having a warm week, and the fact that it's been rainy as well has just been a plus -- it helps to melt the ancient snow piles that were threatening to become glaciers. They've waxed and waned, but never gone away since some time in January, as far as I can recall. It gets harder and harder to make the "House For Sale" sign at the corner stay up. The soft snow on top is all gone, and what was under it is hard as curbstone. Tuesday was even nicer than Monday. After I stepped outside, I ran back in and left my coat before walking to the bus stop. There was a pleasant warm undercurrent in the mild breeze.

Efforts to sell the house continue apace. We got another offer from the couple that seem like the likeliest buyers. They've made two low offers so far, but they're moving in the right direction, anyway. We have an Open House coming up on Sunday. We'll all head up to Northampton and have a nice leisurely lunch and look at shops. I did a book cover recently for a couple of authors in Atlanta, and they recommended me to a friend, so I'm doing another one. If I was inclined to put a Mood in the box here, I'd maybe say 'gratified.'
