Great feeling of satisfaction from crawling into the fireplace and closing the flue, thus keeping cold air from chilling the living room, which is what cold air has been doing for a while.

Also some satisfaction from the animation class. I've been keeping up with the class assignments, with the result that I have three animations done so far. There were two actually assigned, but I re-did one because I still had some camera lab time and I wasn't fully satisfied with the first go-through.

Plus there's some satisfaction in the fact that the year hasn't been entirely bereft of paying work. I have a very happy client who says nice things and gives me additional things to do.

There was a little bit of satisfaction in the preparation for the Andy Warhol 'Art Ambassador' unit at Sarah's school. I did a drawing of Warhol for the hall poster, and put together a papercraft Andy that I found via bOINGbOING. It's fun to make kind of arty stuff!

And I was sort of pleased that it didn't snow as much as they said it would here. The next snow event should be coming up soon, though, so this one might be premature.

While exercising at the Y, I caught a tidbit from ESPN. They were covering a game of some kind from Wyoming (I saw "Wyoming" in the subtitle and started looking at the screen.) — the state Wyoming, not the locality in this end of New York state. They explained that the event wasn't in high-def because they were at 7000 feet above sea level. (I didn't realize Wyoming was that much higher than my home town, Fort Collins, either.)

You can't do HDTV at high altitude? When I got home, I promptly forgot all about it, but a few minutes ago I remembered to look it up, and it turns out that the gas plasma screen doesn't behave properly at that altitude.

Seems a little odd to me, so maybe I don't have a complete idea of what's going on. What keeps them from using the cameras and stuff? Why wouldn't they go ahead and use the rest of the equipment and viewing it there with something less than an HDTV monitor?

I also found that they make HDTV sets that work at high altitude. This brings up even more questions.

So for a while I thought I'd learned something today, but now I have more questions than ever.
