remembering this week

.
Thursday was my last day working the fundraiser at WFCR. I was back in my car again, with no air conditioning, so I took my sister's advice and wore a wet hat. Seems to have worked.

On Friday, I drove over to the Saturn dealer for repairs. Some may remember we earlier scraped up $160, which was enough money to get them to tell us it would cost $1005 plus tax. That was weeks ago, and now we had the grand. They called before the estimated three and a half hours to tell me that the compressor had gone bad because of a valve, which would add $275 and some hours to the repair, so I just hung around the house all day. After family came home, I went on a walk to the park with Sarah, bringing some money in case we met the ice cream truck, which we didn't. For a special treat, we went out for dinner -- not to Friendly's, as is our usual practice, but out for sushi. It was good.

On Saturday, we took Sarah to see Ratatouille, which she calls "Rat-a-tat." Twenty minutes in, she got fearful that she was going to be scared, so Cathy took her out and they went shopping. Today we went to Magic Wings, the butterfly place up in Deerfield, where Sarah petted a lizard -- I don't know if it was a horned toad or what -- and worried that a butterfly would land on her. There was a bird show, which we watched with interest. Sarah got to pet a saw-whet owl too. We brought home a monarch caterpillar on a milkweed plant, so Sarah should have the excitement of seeing that develop and hatch out.

I really thought there was more than this. I guess I should write things down sooner. Perhaps it will come to me.

I did, and I did. I confess to not being really happy with how the rats looked, but their acting generally kept me from dwelling too much on their physical appearance. There are wonderful things in that movie.

[livejournal.com profile] nellorat thought the rats were pretty accurate and they have some as pets.

Perhaps. I had one for a little while, too, and have handled them at school, but I think the noses, which were odd little bulbs of a contrasting color, kept pulling me out of the story and looking at their design. I know they were walking a line between cartoon and realistic texture, but the decision not to have little pink noses on the rats harshed my movie buzz a little.
