I'm reminded of Alexis A. Gilliland's story, "Demarche to Iran," in Mike Resnick's Alternate Presidents, in which President Gerald Ford does some things differently.

Unfortunately, I decided last night to throw out all of my books published by Tor, so I won't be reading it again any time soon. Don't ask.

That's what happens when you have a geek as president. Oh well, we can only wish...

Once at a con I heard some guys at a con arguing politics until finally they came up with an idea that they both agreed upon. It was, essentially, "Things would be much better if only we had an engineer as president."

I cut in and pointed out that we've already had two presidents who were engineers: Herbert Hoover and Jimmy Carter.

Too cowardly to do the gentlemanly thing and help patch their egos, I slinked off silently.

heh heh heh One of the reasons I voted for Carter was that engineering experience. Of course, at that time, I didn't know any engineers but had a vague idea that they knew how things worked.

One of the reasons I voted for Carter is that he was the nominee of the party that wasn't the party of the candidate who had pardoned Nixon. And see my above remarks.
