Yesterday was labor intensive. Had to shovel snow, sweep and scrape the car, and get Sarah garbed before we could go out. By then it was too late for the McDonald's breakfast she had decided on, so we went to Panera's. Then to Costco, and then to the Holyoke Children's Museum to pay for the room where we'll have her birthday party on the 11th (birthday is on the 8th). There was a girl Sarah's age at the museum, obviously the offspring of an employee, and she had as much energy as Sarah, if not more. I sat quietly while they brought toy foodstuffs to me in the "diner" section of the museum and as quickly removed them and brought more. They ran up and down stairs. Then Sarah went to the climbers and buzzed all over the place. By the end of the day, she had actually tired herself out and went to sleep pretty quickly. I avoided the scenario where she would sleep until I got up, then start crying loudly when I tried to leave her room, by doing my sacroiliac stretches before I slipped out.
This morning, she was cranky. She claims she didn't get enough sleep. She didn't want to go out for breakfast -- she kept agreeing to go, then changing her mind. We finally got out of the house with just enough time to spare to get to McDonald's while they were still serving breakfast pucks. Unfortunately, she slipped on the ice in the parking lot and was very sad as a result.
She did cheer up, though, and was in a good mood while we ate. She returned to the topic of falling several times, along with the topic of what smelled in there (it was mop water).
At one point, she was practicing counting. We talked numbers. She said, "Do you want to hear me count to seven quick, like a bunny?" Sure, I said. She turned to me and said, "SEVEN!"
