Sarah and I ate pastry and a bagel at Panera's. Sarah sat inside, so whenever she came out of the booth, she crawled under the table. Before she went back under the table, she seemed to be holding her breath.

"Under the table is underwater," she explained.

Half a minute later, she was still under there. I started to become concerned. "Sarah, come out from under the water."

"I'm a mermaid now. They can stay underwater."

Then we went to the dollar store, where she got a toy motorcycle that fell apart minutes after we got home. (In its defense, she was playing with it by throwing it in the air.) We proceeded to Holyoke, where a private party was using the merry-go-round, so we played in the nearby park. The Children's Museum is closed the whole month of September. We made sand castles. Other kids and parents showed up. Sarah found cherries on the ground, or something cherry-like, and wanted to throw them in the canal, which she did. Other kids went and threw cherries in too, and they floated slowly south.

Then the merry-go-round opened, so we took a couple of rides. Once again, they were playing the CD of the band organ instead of the band organ. We came home and had some food and rested a little. I took a shower to get the sand out of my toes. We went to Costco and got some food, shampoo, and a new DVD player to replace the one that's going goony. Then we went to the Greek festival, or "Glendi," at the Orthodox church in Springfield. Sarah slid down the inflatable slide. I looked in on the flea market. We ate pastitsio. Cathy had a salad. I had a spanakopita and piece of baklava. We watched Sarah take one more pair of trips down the slide, then as dark clouds began to fill the sky, we drove home.

The mums had blown off the porch again, so I went on out and, with Sarah's eager help, put the three mums into the ground, where it is hoped they will thrive like the one I put in last year, which is now a veritable shrub. So far, that's about it for today.
