how long?

How long since I posted anything of substance? Hard to say. I've been busy, or it felt that way. Yesterday I made a big sweep of the living room, clearing junk right and left, picking up bits of detritus and vacuuming. Then I took the vacuum cleaner apart far enough to get all the embedded crud out of the filter. Now I've been all through the thing from the tip of the hose to the threshold of the motor, and it really sucks good.

I'm waiting to hear from the job I had a phone interview for. They said they'd let people know at the beginning of the week just past whether to come in for in-person interviews, so I suspect that bus has pulled out already. It's not the only thing I'm waiting to hear about, so at least my life is "busy" in some sense. This morning, Sarah wanted to eat breakfast at home, so I pre-cooked some Little Polskas and sliced up some cheese, then rolled both up into crescents. While those were cooking, I scrambled some eggs with cheese and cut-up Polskas (topped off with garlic salt and a sprinkle of pepper), put slices of cheese on top of the nearly finished crescents, and served with grape juice, after which Sarah decided she wasn't hungry and more and wanted to watch TV. One of the eggs was a double-yolker, which provided a half minute of diversion before I had to start scrambling. Later on, I expect to take up needle and thread and sew the hand back firmly on Sarah's monkey.

Last night, I managed to scan another story's worth of Dore fairy-tale illustrations.

This time, it's "Puss in Boots" aka "Der gestiefelte Kater," with leather boots, and dead mice strung on his belt, getting people and animals to worship him, and visiting people who scarf down babies by the platterful. Call the kids in!

This morning, I was reminded of one of those great moments in cablecasting and went to YouTube to look for it. Perhaps my YouTube-Fu is lacking, but it didn't turn up. I'll have to search it out on my VHS tapes. It ran in the election season some years back. I'm blanking on the proper name used, but it went... a little... like... this:

VOICE: Senator Alan Frisbee promised lower taxes... [Decent photo of person, "LOWER TAXES" caption]
Senator Alan Frisbee LIED. [Unflattering photo, with "LIED" stamped across it]
Senator Alan Frisbee promised better schools... [Decent photo, "BETTER SCHOOLS"]
Senator Alan Frisbee LIED. [Unflattering photo: "LIED"]
Senator Alan Frisbee promised to make Bell Biv Devoe's "Do Me" the state anthem... [photo, etc]
Senator Alan Frisbee LIED. ["LIED" -- montage over remaining dialog, building up to blackmail-worthy ambush photos of Alan Frisbee]
You can fool some of the people some of the time, Senator... but you can't fool MTV.
[very patriotic-looking MTV logo]
MTV. Everybody else is just Lying Scum.

Big day follows. Sarah has another birthday party to attend. Suffice it to say, not much to report, but I'm still keeping up on the FL, for values of "keeping up" that include cursory skimming of every post with an option on actually reading every third or fourth one. Looks like everybody else has a lot going on too!

Y'know, the dead cow in the pot almost distracted me from the platter of infants.
