Well, Jesus Bird Christ, as my Texas cousin used to say.

I had a call from my niece today that my sister's surgery went well, and she's doing fine. Good to know. It's not the first major surgery she's had. When she was 16, she came down with ulcerative colitis, and when we drove from Colorado to Texas, we learned every rest stop along the way.

Once, we were in the Texas hill country near Fredericksburg, and there was urgent need. Just when things were looking grim, we found what we needed in Lady Bird Johnson State Park, and ever since that day, my sister (and the rest of us) have had a soft spot in our hearts for the former First Lady. I think she also may have owned a radio or TV station we used to listen to and/or watch, but the details are fuzzy (and I may be confusing them with KTCL in my home town, which was owned by Alf Landon or his family).

Anyway, rest in peace, Mrs. Johnson. There'll be bluebonnets on your grave.

I always like Ladybird, too. Definitely LBJ's better half. I heard on NPR last night that she did own a radio station - she turned it around when it was failing, in fact.

She was pretty cool. Certainly a classier act then some of the first ladies who have come since.
Glad to hear your sister is doing good.
*Fingers crossed still>*

I'm glad your sister came through her surgery. My thoughts are with your family and her.

A fine tribute to both the living and the deceased.

Lady Bird was still living on the ranch when I visited the national park there ten years ago. Didn't see her, though.

The LBJs did own radio and/or tv stations in Austin and (perhaps, IIRC) elsewhere. Much head-scratching by Robert Caro as to where they got the money to acquire them.

I'm glad your sister's surgery went well. I couldn't post anything in reply to your original post about her because, strangely, the comments link was missing.
