I've tried "cellpadding" and "padding" and all sorts of syntax, but I can't seem to keep the text from clinging, limpetlike, to the songbook graphic. I would welcome a useful tip on how to accomplish this. Thank you.

I often put LJ images between "center" tags, which seem to include a linebreak. This may not be the effect you are seeking, however.

Livejournal probably allows a limited subset of HTML tags within postings. I await further responses from those more expert than I.

"Margin" and "padding" are style tags, not ordinary html attributes. So you might do <img src="whatever" style="padding: 15px;"> or some such.

I thought I'd already done that, but then I tried so many permutations that my memory of the matter is effectively shot. I copied and pasted what you wrote in the same place I had been putting it before, and you can see the result on the most recent 1000 Songs posting: the blue box (which is there because flickr insists on it being clickable as a term of use) expands and touches the surrounding type.

Maybe I should give up on the text flow. I just like it.

Oh, and thanks. Your suggestion is the first thing I've tried that actually had any effect at all, so it's encouraging.

Ah, that's a different problem. You want to add either "border: none;" to the style, or else us "margin" instead of "padding" (see html box model).
