There's a big overstock/surplus place called Ollie's here. I don't know if there are others like it, but they have volumes IV through IX of Winsor McCay: Early Works for just $2.99 each — brand new, listed at $19.95. I didn't see any other volumes, but this is a hella deal, and I just want to mention it in case anybody out there is in a position to use it. It will take me a long time to read all these. I can read one or two dozen pages, and then my brain starts to overheat.
Apologies to all who don't have Ollie's. It was my first time there, and there are things I plan to go back for. Volume 2 of multi-DVD collections of Walter Lantz cartoons, $6.99. A large-format Abrams book on the Mona Lisa (which inspired my related post) for $10.
There is also a huge-format coffee table book of pictures of the polar regions. Looks nice, although some of the pages are headed "ANARCTICA."

Date: 2011-05-20 07:15 pm (UTC)Abebooks does not turn up any prices nearly this good. Also, some booksellers list "Winsor" McCay, some list "Windsor." Maybe I should search for MacCay, McKay, and MacKay as well.
I never heard of Ollie's, but now I see that their Henrietta store is walking distance from my old house!
