Is there a journal style that says "I don't care how big a photo somebody pasted in their LJ, I'm not going to force you to scroll back and forth for every single line of your friends page"?

Because this isn't just getting old. It IS old.

I have a custom Friends group called AllButOne, which I use to cast the offender into Outer Darkness Pro Tem.

Hm. It's an LJ group. Do you have one person who regularly does that? It seems like somebody's relying on LJ album or whatever it's called, and getting weird results. The moderator has spoken to them, but that still means I have to slog through all that today.

Nope, no persistent offenders, I'm glad to say. Indeed, I very rarely need it these days.

Under Profile > Settings, you can choose to have an image placeholder instead of images displayed, and the same for videos. I've done that, so I only see pictures of (for instance) Sarah when I click on them.

Which I do, when you post them. I don't click on pictures I expect to contain cats being adorable.

I think I've figured out what I'll do. I'll keep my settings to default to showing, and if I see that my FP is mysteriously wide, I'll invoke the Nuclear Option.

This is what I've done, because in the past week or so, there have been a lot of huge photos showing up on my reading list, and it annoys the hell out of me.

I limit mine to about 640 across (one of the sizes flickr goes to). Is that an okay size for you? I go by how things look on my screen, but not everybody has the same size or resolution set, and I've been wondering about it.

Yours have always been fine. Some people put huge photos in, and they make me crazy. Unfortunately, it seems as if LJ has eliminated the option to choose the maximum size to show, and now it's either all shown or all blocked.

My heavily customized (and by-now quite peculiar) style is a heavily modified "Magazine" style, which I chose for exactly that reason.

Don't know offhand if it's still around. It had some infelicities that I don't remember because I haven't touched the code in a few years now, but the not-having-to-scroll-horizontalliness trumped everything else.
