Do you mean the iTunes Store? I try to avoid that, though I have about two albums worth of material from there, due to Sarah giving me some at holiday time. The rest of the 20,856 "songs" (ranging from under a minute to over an hour) are things I put in from my own rips (iTunes rips CDs nicely enough, and I also use SoundForge or Audacity to edit as needed), yoinked from YouTube, or downloaded from eMusic (slow and steady, member since 2007).

I should look into other players, though. I don't doubt that I'm paying some kind of premium just to have a little logo of an apple on the back of the machine.
