I see I haven't changed the calendar since Wednesday. It's been that kind of week. Sort of breathless. But -- and I would stress this point -- in a benign sort of way. There's been a lot of running in place at work, but I don't feel bad, on balance. I haven't been having constant "work" dreams, though they haven't gone away completely. Still, when you're napping on your lunch break, you should expect that sort of thing.
There were massive print jobs for Number One Client, and last-minute changes and massively increased numbers of copies requested with very little notice. The black stripes weren't black enough. We tore through pull-down menus looking for ways to make them blacker. I suggested applying a strip of electrical tape on each copy, but it wasn't practical for the quantities needed. Then blemishes started turning up on our output. The repairman was called, and he applied his expertise to the copier (instead of the more normal procedure of applying it to explaining that we can't expect anything on heavy stock, pre-printed stock, stock that feed sideways, or stock that isn't on the Master List O Stock that can be found at his company's website). Thirty minutes after he left, new blemishes started showing up on the dreadfully time-critical job, so he was called again.
And there I was, taking my nap, when he showed up with a piece of paper, asking where the blemish was. I cut it short and punched back in and showed him some tainted copy. He denied being able to see it, so I traced it with a finger. He found this laughable, being as he's not the one who gets it in the neck when Number One rejects the entire job. But he fixed it, and life went on.
Earlier this week, I finished the butterfly label job (sounds dirty when you put it like that) and brought some flawed butterfly stickers home to Sarah. She now sees me in a new light -- I can make STICKERS! And stickers are the COOLEST thing in the world! The next day I brought home some sheets of green card stock that were left over from something, and she started expecting a surprise every night. I explained that it's not a surprise if you expect it, and she seems to have bought the explanation.
Also this week, direct deposit kicked in, so I don't have to e-mail Cathy to let her know how much I got paid. She tells me.
Oh, and I dropped out of RASFF. Formally, with a maudlin farewell posting. I plan to use the extra time for, like projects and stuff, and not just widdle it all away on LJ and blogs. So phase two will be reducing the number of blogs I read. Or as it stands now, the number of blogs that accumulate unread issues on my Bloglines account. If I can limit the blogroll to folks who are good at pointing out especially good posts on other blogs, I won't go stale, hopefully. And then I'll find time to sort out my photos, instead of leaving them all on my iPod and stuff. I need the room.
