the laziest man

This story might be what I saw it presented as, namely a Chinese folk story. I read it in Children's Digest back in the 60s.
The laziest man in the world was waited on hand and foot by his long-suffering wife. She fed him, and did everything for him. He was so lazy.
One day she received word that she must journey to see her family for an important reason. She fretted over this. How could she leave her husband alone?
After thinking hard, she made up a massive batch of biscuits for him to eat, and left him beneath a tree. She strung the biscuits on a strong thread and put the necklace of biscuits on her husband and set off on her journey.
Many days later, she returned home to find her husband dead of starvation under the tree. He had only eaten the biscuits in front.
