I visited Sibley Music Library, of the Eastman School here in Rochester. I tried to find it once before, but today I prepared and located it, parked, and went on in.

To get in, you swipe your student ID or ring a bell. I rang. The door opened and I went to the desk to sign the visitor book (a sign said to do that). The student at the desk asked for my ID and copied my name and address, then turned it to me to sign.

I flipped through the loose papers in the binder. "Where is it?" I asked.

"Where's what?"

"The visitor guidelines that I'm signing to say I've read and understood."

"Oh. That's over here." He reached over and got me one. "Nobody ever asked before."

Apparently nobody had. A man came out of the office behind him to get a look at me.

The library is fantastic. Tons of stuff. My kind of stuff. I stopped back by the desk on my way out and asked if it's possible to get a card for a non-student. It is. All I have to do is fill out a form and pay $50. Cathy, head librarian of another college that she is, is looking into lower-cost alternatives.
