Before there was the Fufumal, Kate Gladstone favored rec.music.filk with this (predicated on the statement that "Little Bunny Foo Foo" uses a tune taken from the "Lacrimosa" of Verdi's Requiem. Kate speaks next:
If Giuseppe Verdi had written a children's opera ...

FUFU IL CONIGLIO

Fufu il Coniglio
Saltando per la selva,
Raccogliendo i topolini,
Schiacciando sulla testa!

    Discende la Buona Fata ...
     E lui dice ... :
Fufu Il Coniglio
Non amo vostra intenzione,
Raccogliendo i topolini,
Schiacciando sulla testa!
    Conseguentemente ...
    Te provvederai TRE INDULGENZE!
E, si tu no obbedisse a mi,
    Te transformerai in un imbecille!

Fufu il Coniglio
Saltando per la selva,
Raccogliendo i topolini,
Schiacciando sulla testa!

    Discende la Buona Fata ...
     E lui dice ... :
Fufu Il Coniglio
Non amo vostra intenzione,
Raccogliendo i topolini,
Schiacciando sulla testa!
    Conseguentemente ...
    Te provvederai DUE INDULGENZE!
E, si tu no obbedisse a mi,
    Te transformerai in un imbecille!

    Conseguentemente ...
    Ho provisto TRE INDULGENZE!
E, perchè tu no has obbedetto a mi,
    Te transformerei in un imbecille!"
    E cosi ha fatto.

IL MORALE: Oggi in silve, domani imbecile.*

CODA:
     Fufu il Imbecille
     Saltando per la selva ...

* translator's note: my poor equivalent for "Hare today, goon tomorrow" -- plays on the Italian proverb "Oggi in figura, domani in sepoltura"

Why the hell does somebody who patently does not know Italian attempt something as difficult as poetry translation? Do they think any imbecile can translate on a smattering of vague knowledge of the language?

This is not Italian. This is some pig-Italian and, frankly, insulting.

Who the hell is this?

My fault. I responded to someone's request to see it by posting it. The author's name is given above, and on the Fufumal item. I was wondering what suggestions you'd have on this. I didn't realize it would upset you.

I emailed Kate. She sends her regrets and says to withdraw it, and I should ask you if you feel like rendering a substitute (I told her it's what you do) that I could put up in its place. If not, I understand that it's perhaps like asking for free legal advice from a lawyer at a party.

No insult was intended.

You're right, sorry. I was out of line and posted while thinking about too many things at once.

I've removed my stupidity; if you want to remove this as well, please do by all means.

Thanks for the retraction. You can still express your opinion, of course.

Please pardon my awkwardness. This is the first time I felt like I was moderating a thread.

Thank you SOOOOOOO much for sharing this, [livejournal.com profile] kip_w: I have shared it with a belovèd friend and co-conspirator in culinary capers who is a board member of the San José Opera Company in SJ, CA.

As a theoretical linguist and university-level language instructor (ESL, French, and Spanish), I pass [livejournal.com profile] annafdd a Long Island Iced Tea and my best wishes for a long and happy life.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Kip! *raises a glass to you and buys you one, too*

*goes back to rolling on the floor laughing my butt off*

Well, she's a native speaker and translates for a living, so I expect her opinion has some weight. Still, I suspect the rules aren't as tight for avowed humor. Anyway, that tempest has passed, and I'm no storm chaser. Glad you liked it.
