Yesterday, just about all the snow was gone. Today it's back and still falling with vigor. It prevents me from getting in the car and going to get Cathy from the hospital. She says it's okay to wait. It prevents me from taking Sarah to a birthday party at a bounce house. She says maybe Zach will reschedule it.

Sarah and I had sushi last night on our way home. While I was there I asked if they needed any piano players and explained that I was one. They said they had some but might need others in the future and said I could play a bit, so I played four or five things that I had in my pack and suggested maybe playing for free on some off-peak night so they could hear what kind of stuff I do.

I expect in a little while Sarah will ask me to make cheesy eggs with sausage, as I have already done several times in the last week or so. I think we're down to the last little baggie of smokey links that I divided the last bunch of them into before putting them in the freezer. I'll get more some time, because they've been tasty. I've done my best to make the eggs good and cheesy and not overcooked, with five or so sausages cut up and stirred in (most of the cheese is added at the end, instead of being cooked in) and a couple on the side to be enjoyed by themselves.

I might get dressed and go out and see what kind of damage I can do with a snow shovel soon.

Have you given her omelets yet?

I suspect she's had one somewhere along the way, but they represent the opposite of her platonic food ideal, which is separate ingredients, each in its own place. The fact she will accept sausage in cheesy eggs is a hopeful sign.

I had to shovel snow last week, and I can say that I'm happy I don't have to do it every week! Although the exercise was actually probably good for me.

On consideration, the drive appears to have a pile of snow by one end, which indicates that some form of plowing must have taken place. I guess it would have been deeper otherwise. My car, of course, is always surrounded by drifts that have to be shoveled out one by one.

The exercise is good for you, right up until the moment it causes you to drop dead. Funny old snow shoveling.

Ah well, you've got to die from *something*, and death by snow-shoveling is probably preferable to death by great white shark.

Hm, okay, that's probably way too morbid. But I can't stop myself!

Yummie -- cheesy eggs with sausage!

Sorry to hear you're trapped at home, though.

Trapped? Oh, never. Well, hardly ever. I called over to Zach's parents, and they were just going out to get the cake, and the party was still on, so I gathered things into the car, including road salt, cat litter, and another shovel, and cleared off the loaf of snow from the top and shoveled around it, got Sarah and stuff in, and cleared off the windows one more time (no ice, just horizontally falling snow) and eased on out the driveway. Round Trail Drive was clearer than the driveway, Stuyvesant was clearer than the drive, Knickerbocker had clearly defined ruts, Mendon had clear patches, and South Main had a well defined line of cars to fall behind.

With some back-and-forth, I finally found the carefully concealed location of the bounce houses and got Sarah into it. Zach's parents offered to drive her home, and I immediately took them up on it. Then I followed the ruts to 590 and fell in a line of moderately slow vehicles, got Cathy, and reversed course to go home. I had to shovel some more so she could open her door and get out, then I cleared off the porch and helped her in. Now she's seeing if sleep is a possibility.

The healing may begin.

Ah, so everybody got where they were going after all! It would be cool if you could play some at the sushi place. I don't like eggs much, but if they have enough stuff like cheese and sausage, I probably wouldn't mind. Terry gave a recipe for a Russian Omelet on Making Light.

Things have been so very happenin' here that I keep forgetting to tell you the sweater arrived and has been ahhhhed over. Very pretty! When she gets a little more written vocabulary, we need to start having her write thank-you notes for things like that.

My cheesy eggs usually aren't cheesy enough. This past Christmas morning I overcompensated and got them a bit too cheesy. I see you hold off putting the cheese in 'til after the eggs are mostly cooked. Maybe that's key. I'll try it (if I remember).

Glad everyone got to their destinations eventually.

I've decided in recent months that external cheese is more noticeable than cooked-in cheese. I grate the cheese, and put some on the plate(s). I stir a little into the eggs along with the cut-up sausage bits, and the rest goes on top after the eggs are out of the pan. I season them with garlic salt and some pepper.
