Facebook had some irritating features. These irritations were addressed by a Firefox add-on called "feed filter" that kept FB from defaulting to a stupid setting called "TOP NEWS" which let them decide what I wanted to see. It expanded comment threads. It kept other garbage I didn't want off of my page.

Then Facebook sent them a Cease & Desist letter. I didn't know about this until I had installed their 2.0 upgrade [sic] which removed all the useful features of the add-on. I searched just now for a way to get 1.4.5 back, but can't find one.

So I'm solving the problem by quitting Facebook. I guess that means I'll be posting here more often now. I guess this also means my current games of Lexulous will never be finished. In the meantime, FB keeps all my information, just in case. Just in case I decide to come back, or just in case somebody offers them a nickel for it. I'm glad I pretty much zeroed out all that stuff weeks ago.

The experience here is so much better that I just don't see what the allure is anyway. I'm mostly on FB so that I can connect with my least computer-savvy family and acquaintances. (And I still won't "friend" authors I don't consider myself friends with, just to have them on my list.)

I'm not a big fan of FB, being over there mostly to read other people rather than to do anything myself.

There are a few things I've noticed that I like there. The ability to tag people in photos, and the fact that I get notified when people do that, is very nice. I can see how some people find the automatic circles of decreasing friendship useful (if it matches their life, they don't need to manually implement friend groups on LJ). And I've known several computer-savvy people my age who enjoy spending time in the games.

The games! The games!

The games of Facebook! They fill me with a Lovecraftian horror.

If I wanted to waste time, I'd spend even more time on Wikipedia, editing articles on obscure former state legislators in places I've never been to, and fighting the Firehose of Sewage which is spam patrol.

With ten sites, it looked like it was worth a shot, but no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, and no.

Thanks, though.

The WashPost put a little box where you could go to your Facebook and tell what news you liked. I asked their IT columnist, and must not have been the only one, because his next column told how to get rid of the FB box.

Glad to have you back!

I'm much more of a blogger. I'm on facebook to stay in touch with friends who don't want to livejournal. But the privacy intrusion is disturbing to me, especially since employers can gain access to it.

Welcome back!

I can't figure out a good way to keep up with Facebook though I do post occasionally.
