shelleybear, some drunken dipstick has killed the director of the Jean Shepherd movie, A Christmas Story. An unlicensed drunk -- hey, kind of like the guy who totaled our VW Squareback and got away with it -- will likely be charged after he gets out of the hospital. Well. I was just listening to the comments on the DVD of the movie. It's kind of odd -- I don't really care for any other movies he's done, but this one was a masterpiece.
He deserved a better end than this.

Date: 2007-04-05 04:31 pm (UTC)Bob Clark's Black Christmas (AKA Stranger in the House, and one of about a zillion films AKA Silent Night, Evil Night) had one truly great idea: at the end of the movie, and over the end credits, an unanswered phone keeps ringing. And ringing. And ringing. (In fact, I recently saw this very same plot point as the answer to an online trivia contest.) Our ingrained impulse to answer the phone means this is really effective at working on your nerves. (Or at least, was, back when telephones sounded like that.) I'm tempted to think that in a fairer universe, the guys who cranked out the remake would be on the road, but (see above) that goes against my nature.
Clark also did the kinda-nifty Holmes-vs.-Ripper movie, Murder By Decree. But we all know which one he'll be remembered for.
